Sofia V                             Not Just an ordinary day.

In a small, compact Town in the Country lived three young, adventurous boys, Ted, Tim, and Tom. Tim was the oldest and Ted was the youngest. They lived in a small, ancient cottage that was nearly falling to pieces.  They lived with their Father who chopped wood for the family in the woods nearby and their hard working Mother who stayed at home to look after them.

One Day as normal the boys woke up at dawn to the sound of roosters. Cock-a-doodle-do. They sleepily and clumsily walked downstairs, to find their dad going off to work in the woods. Their mother commanded the boys to go down to the nearby pond and wash off while she would go to the market and get bread and butter for breakfast. “ We don’t want to,” they cried out.
“ No breakfast then” replied the Mother. They did what they were told.

“Come on I’ll race you to the pond,” said Tim.
Tom caught up with Tim. ‘’You two got a head start!” screeched Ted. The clear blue water was cold and refreshing. They started playing a nice game of water tag. All of a sudden a massive, scary taniwha jumped out at them. The taniwha was a rainbow colour, with sharp yellow scales all over. It had razor sharp teeth as white as a ghost.  They were so frightened that they rushed around, like chickens without heads.  They didn’t  know what to do,  they couldn't stop screaming.

The high pitched scream was so loud that their Father heard them from in the woods. He listened for a minute, not really taking it in, then he realized it was his children screaming. He was now running as fast as he could. He saw what was going on and used the sharp, silver axe that he had been cutting wood with to scare the taniwha out of the pond, onto the brown dried up grass, passed the newly built bridge and into an ancient rotten broken barn. BAM, They slammed the door shut and locked it tight. From that day the Taniwha was never seen again. They all lived happily ever after.

The Great Snail Race Game!!!

In room 20 we have been learning about probability. We decided to play a game to help us understand probability a bit better. The game is called the snail race.

The rules are:
You set up a board Like the ones we were playing with
And then everyone picks two numbers out of the hat the numbers shouldbe from 1-12. You  Take turns at rolling the two dice. Say I got a 4 and a 6.
Well 4 and 6=10 so the snail that is number ten move up once
place on the board You keep playing to 3 snails have crossed the finish line.
Then You record your answer.
We played two games are results were:
In the first Game
                 Number 7 won
                 Number 8 2nd
                 Number 3 3rd
In the Second Game:
                 Number 7 won
                 Number 5 2nd
                 Number 6 3rd

When we played we found that some numbers had disadvantages and some major advantages
Such as 1 was never going to be moved and 12 could only be moved if we got a 6 and a 6
Then there were numbers like 7 that won lot's because there are lots of ways to get seven like 1 and 6, 2 and 5, 3 and 4. We found out that snail number 7 is the best number to get because it has a 6/36 chance of winning this is the higher chance out of all of the other snails take a look:
1) 0 chance
2) 1/36 chance
3) 2/36 chance
4) 3/36
5) 4/36
6) 5/36
7) 6/36!!!!!
8) 5/36
9) 4/36
10) 3/36
11) 2/36
12) 1/36
We found this out by using this table that shows us all the possible outcomes of rolling 2 die.

My article: Fidget toys that are supposed to help kids focus are doing the opposite
Written: by Chicago Tribune

Published by: Newsela staff
The 5 W’s:
Who: Kate Ellison and all children who play with fidget spinners.
Where: Washington Elementary  School and all schools.
When: Anytime.
What: Schools have been banning fidget toys Why: because they are doing the opposite of what the are meant to do.
Six sentence summary: If you haven’t heard of fidget spinners they are a piece of plastic with three prongs that stick out. They spin just like the name. They were made to help kids with ADHD or autism focus better in class but they became so popular that everyone wanted one. ADHD is a condition that makes it hard for them to sit still and concentrate. Students with  Autism have trouble communicating with others. Teachers have been banning fidget spinners from school because students have been trading or playing with them during class learning time.
Questions I’m wondering:
Why did fidget spinners become so popular?
How do they help people concentrate?

Connections I’m making:
I had a fidget spinner. I think they are really fun but don’t really help me concentrate.

My article: They make it look easy but it’s not: Ballerinas deal with serious foot pain.
Written by:
Newsela staff.

Published by:
Washington post.
The 5 W’s:
Who: Lauren Lovette and Ballerina’s.
Where: New York City Ballet
When: Posted 06.02.17
What: Ballerina’s deal with serious pain from being in pointe shoes non stop.
Why: Ballerina’s are always in tight fitting stiff pointe shoes unlike any other sport where you just were trainers so their feet get very sore and tired.

Six sentence summary:
Ballerina’s are always in a battle with their feet. Being in tight fitting pointe shoe all day makes their feet very tired and sore. Ballerina’s dance through pain and lauren lovette was always in pain until she found out she had and extra bone in her left foot. Shoemakers make their shoes hard and stiff by putting wood and layers of fabric and glue in their pointe shoes. You have to break in your pointe shoes before you use them.  The shoe and the dancers foot must work together as one, so each dancer must make sure the shoe fit’s perfectly.

Questions I’m wondering:
1: why do pointe shoes cost so much?

2: why does the inside of a pointe shoe have to be so hard.

Connections I’m making:
!: i used to do ballet and i watched the big kids dance in pointe shoes.

MOTHERS DAY POEM

My Mum Julie!!!
Her smile so big and bold it can stand out in any crowd,
Her dark hair that in the morning, looks like a roaring lion’s mane in till she tames it,
I love the smell of the Kerastase hair conditioner after she washes it.
Her soft hair just like rose petals,

That’s why I love her,

The sound of her soft calm voice always cheers me up when I’m down,
I love it when she strokes her soft moisturised hands through my knotty hair,

That’s why I love her,

My mum’s breath smells like a hot cup of tea in the morning,
She is the best mum in the universe,

That’s why I love her to the moon and back.

TE REO.

This term we have been learning TE REO try work out what they are saying:

MY QUESTION MATRIX

This is my question matrix for my passion project:

Passion project: Dance.

Passion Project: DANCE!!!

WHAT IS DANCE?
Dance is a sport that includes moving rhythmically  to music following usually a set sequence of steps. You can dance alone or with a group. There are lot’s of different types of dance such as, ballet, which is a slower more technical  dance. Jazz which is like ballet but a bit more faster, groovy and  upbeat. Then there’s tap, tap is and exciting form of dance where dancers wear special shoes with equipped with metal taps. Tap dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats, hip hop is a dance were dancers let loose and don’t worry too much about their technique  and just dance to upbeat hip hop music.  modern dance is a dance style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet. AND are just the main dances , there are still tons more .

WHY DO PEOPLE CHOOSE TO DANCE!!!
The reason why i think people dance is because the love it and  dance is a way of telling people a story but by your moves and actions instead of talking. You can dance when you feel down and it can cheer you. Or if you’re a really fidgety and energetic (like me)  you  can dance for a while and it will tire  you out.

WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO BE A DANCER!!!
It takes a lot of patience and responsibility to be a dancer. You have to have patience to learn new skills because you're not going to get them first try.
Commitment is a big part of dance you learn a recital routine and then let your team down by QUITTING. To be a dancer you have to be willing to do stretches that your teaching has told you to do because that will help you to get better.

Why does stretching help you get better at dancing?
From what i found out stretching helps tremendously stretching  can help lower the risk of injuries such as ankle sprains or breaks if the foot isn’t stretched properly. More importantly if you haven’t stretched your back you can seriously hurt it and possibly break it. streching can also help with your hitch-kicks, pirouettes, splits and a lot more.

Iformation Report

This is my imformation report about my passion: Dance.
Dancing!!!
Dance is a sport that you move in time with the music usually following a set sequence of lively movements resembling a dance. You can dance solo or in a small group.

Types of dances:
There are lot’s of different types dances these are the main ones, Ballet, which is a slower technical dance style, jazz which is like ballet but a lot faster and not as technical or there’s hip hop which is danced to a  fast beat and you just let loose and move. There are lot more such as, tap, modern, swing, contra, country and western, Belly dancing, flamenco, latin, folk, break dancing, Acro and classical.

What Shoes to wear:
In some dances there are special shoes you have to wear. Junior ballet dancers wear pink (for girls) or black (for boys) slip on ballet slippers. Advanced ballerinas wear Pointe shoes. There are also jazz shoes for jazz dancers and some hip hop dancers wear canvas or converse  shoes.  Some dances just wear sneakers/trainers or simply bare feet.

Time and effort:
It takes time and effort to be a dancer. Commitment is a big part of dance, when a dancer commits  to a recital they can’t let their team down by not showing up or quitting right before the show. Dancers also have to be willing to stretch or work on flexibility because if they’re not they're not going to get better.

Maddie Ziegler:
Maddie is a dancer who gained national attention as a top performer on the reality lifetime TV show “Dance Moms”. Her strongest styles of dance are tap and lyrical. Maddie’s birthday is september the 30th 2002 and she was born at Pittsburgh PA  She danced  in SIA’s music videos “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart”. Maddie has a younger sister Mackenzie who was also on Dance Moms. The sky’s the limit for 14 year old Maddie Ziegler.

Over all dance is a great sport if you're willing to work hard !!!

GOAL SETTING!!!

MY GOAL 2017 !!!

1  Last term my goals were to: reach stage seven by the end of the year and to be resilient and turn up to every cheer practice for the term.

2. So far I have come to every cheer practice except for two because I wasn't at school. So I think I achieved this goal. I haven't got to stage seven yet but, I have been practicing really really hard and I still have two more terms  and I got 68% on my last knowledge test.

3. This term my smart goals are to get 75% or more on stage six. To use more  show not tell and to have a growth mindset towards my learning.

4. I'm going to achieve these goals by working really hard on my math being focused at all times and using my time wisely.  Use descriptive vocabulary in my writing  to show people what's happening  instead of  making it boring by telling people. Always think positive to grow and train my brain.

recount writing

Splat !!!
I was having a great day doing roly-polys with my best friend at Lumsden Kindy. (Little did I know what was going to happen next). So I carried on jumping off the wedge, practicing my split jump that I had just learn’t last night at gymnastics.

Five minutes later as I was jumping off the wedge I came across a familiar face. “Time to go” Mum said softly. “ One more jump” I pleaded. “OK” Mum said softly.

I jumped as high as I could then BOOM. !!!I saw the hard grassy ground below me. I whirled around. My stomach tied up in knots. I could faintly hear the gasps of the surrounding people. I screamed in pain. as I heavily hit the hard cold grassy ground. Mum hastily ran to me and picked me up.

After a long time at the hospital mum took me home with my new accessory (a sling). I couldn’t believe I had just broken my shoulder. I sulked and whimpered all night long, That was so embarrassing I thought to myself.
